HYDERABAD: Modalities discussed to implement package

HYDERABAD, Sept 25: Modalities to implement a development package for Hyderabad worth Rs10.5 billion announced by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali were discussed at a preliminary meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman.

The meeting was attended by the taluka Nazims and officers of various departments.

The district Nazim of Hyderabad said priority would be given to the rehabilitation of infrastructure and improvement of civic facilities for the city of Hyderabad comprising three talukas.

He said an amount of Rs6,000 million had been proposed for the implementation of water supply, sewerage and drainage schemes. In addition to that, an amount of Rs1,394 million would be allocated for construction of roads and fly-overs on railway crossings to provide better communication facilities to the people of Hyderabad.

He said Rs76 million were recommended to improve water supply, drainage and sewerage capacity of the cantonment area.

The meeting also recommended that Rs3,000 million could be utilized for the uplift of rural talukas and small towns of the district with provision of electricity, gas, water supply, sewerage, drainage, roads and purchase of fire brigades.

Also, Rs30 million were proposed for the purchase of fire brigades for the talukas of Hyderabad city, Latifabad and Qasimabad.

The district Nazim informed the meeting that apart from the Hyderabad Development Package, the HDA had also been asked to prepare plans for beautification and environmental uplift of the city to create a healthy atmosphere for the citizens.

Dr Zaman appealed to the taluka Nazims of the district to do their best to convince the MNAs and MPAs of the district of utilizing their development funds for the uplift of the city.

He directed officers of nation building departments that schemes of the development package be separated from the ongoing development projects which included Greater Hyderabad Project, Governors Special Package and Annual Development programme.

He also directed that duplication of schemes should be avoided and said that plans already approved under other development projects be deducted from the prime minister’s package.

He asked the management of the Sui Southern Gas Company to submit feasibility report about gas supply to periphery villages of Hyderabad and small towns within a week’s time.

The district Nazim asked officers to prepare development schemes of rural talukas in such a way so that each union council should get equal share of the development fund.

HDA director-general Ali Ahmad Lund, EDO Planning Syed Juman Shah, EDO Finance Syed Sikandar Shah, EDO Works and Communication Abdul Rehman Memon, Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering Hyderabad, a representative of Sui Southern Gas Company, City taluka Nazim Moinuddin Shaikh, Qasimabad taluka Nazim Noor Muhammad Shoro and cantonment executive officer attended the meeting.
