Amit, Farhan storm into semifinals

KARACHI, Sept 24: Playing at his best Amit Parwani, with Farhan Mirza and Naveen Perwani forced their way into the last four stage of 17th Red and White Latif Master Snooker Championship after crucial victories in their last league ties at Karachi Club Billiards Hall Wednesday.

Lanky bespectacled Amit of Sindh produced another sterling show with an impressive 4-1 victory over Imran Shahzad with a break of 64 in third frame.

The victory not only put Amit in the semifinal for first time after change of format of 16 players but he emerged as the group champion in pool “B”.

In Thursday’s best of nine frame semifinals, Amit will be pitted against cousin and holder Naveen Perwani while Khurram Agha clash another dangerous player Farhan Mirza.

The best of 13 frame final of lucrative Rs 240,000 will be held on Friday at 2.00 p.m. The final has been rescheduled back to Friday after cancellation of South Africa’s opening one-day international against Pakistan.

Former national champion Farhan Mirza of Punjab entered into the knock-out stage by handing out a straight frame drubbing to province-mate Abu Saim, who gave the double blow to top cueists Muhammad Yousuf and Saleh Muhammad with amazing victories on the first day.

Experienced Naveen breezed into the semifinal in style when handed out a 4-2 defeat on top seeded Khurram Agha to end his unbeaten run. Naveen made the breaks of 43 in first 52 in second and 38 and 57 in fifth frame to show his form.
