NOWSHERA, Sept 24: The Pakistan People’s Party has warned that all efforts by the military rulers to manufacture another King’s party out of the PPP will prove a big failure.

Speaking at a news conference here on Tuesday, Maj Gen (rtd) Naseerullah Khan Babar, a former federal minister and PPP central leader, said that the present government would fail in launching a GHQ-brand PPP. The successive governments had tried to cause a split in the party, but they failed to garner the support of the majority, he added.

In the past, he said former president Farooq Ahmed Leghari had tried to launch a new PPP headed by Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, but the chief of army staff, Gen Jehangir Karamt, refused to buy this idea. Mr Leghari and his likes met a failure, he added.

He lashed out at both, Maulana Samiul Haq and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and termed them puppets of the intelligence agencies.
