KARACHI: Exhibition on society free of pollution

KARACHI, Sept 24: Hundreds of students from various schools, belonging to local bodies wing of the city government, organized a colourful exhibition on Wednesday to highlight the significance of pollution free environment.

The one-day show titled “Environmental Education Exhibition” was arranged on the directive of EDO local bodies at Moulvi Abdul Haq Elementary School, Block-14, Federal B Area. Students of different schools located in 18 towns of the city participated in the exhibition under the supervision of their teachers.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan was the chief guest at its inaugural session. The Nazim witnessed a smart band, displayed by the school students of Gulberg Town, before inaugurating the exhibition formally.

During his round to different stalls, Mr Khan appreciated the students for their contribution and attempts to disseminate or depict knowledge and problems related to environment.

He called for making combined efforts by all sections of society to overcome the environmental problems and making the earth a better place to live in. He observed that there had been a drastic increase in pollution due to the careless attitude of people towards the environmental aspects of the earth.

However, he lauded the efforts of students while mentioning that they had given a clear message to all Pakistanis to love their country and live for it.

If the previous leadership had worked honestly, there could have been more greeneries and healthy environment in Karachi, he remarked. The Nazim claimed that among other development works, his government had also given preference to tree plantation.

The EDO (Schools), Anwar Ahmad Zai and DOE local bodies Muhammad Shamim Khan also spoke at the inaugural function.

At some of the stalls, models prepared with discarded material were displayed. Students were of the view that instead of dumping, many of the waste materials could be recycled for useful purposes.

Later, painting exhibition, cultural programmes, skits, tableaus and national songs competitions were held at three different sessions of the day.

Among others, students were visited and addressed by Naib Nazim Tariq Hassan, Town Nazims Farooq Naimatullah and Dr Pervez Mahmood, UC Nazim Hakim Syed Mujahid Barkati and Chairperson of Education Committee Rehana Afroze in different sessions of the exhibition.
