ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: The capital territory police have traced four persons who were allegedly involved in buying and selling petrol stolen from government vehicles.

The Secretariat police have arrested two accused, identified as Qurban Hussain and Kamran Ahmed. The investigation officer said there were six illegal sale spots in the jurisdiction of the police station, including Burma Chowk and Paracha Chowk, from where thousands of litres of stolen petrol was seized.

Similarly, Bhara Kahu police have arrested two accused, identified as Hamraz Akthar and Mohammad Yasin. The investigation officer told this reporter that the two illegal sale points — Darola and Charah Chowk — in the jurisdiction of the police station were sealed and four drums containing 830 litres stolen petrol seized.

The police said all four persons did not have any licence to sell petrol. The police have submitted challans against the accused to the court.

A police official, requesting anonymity, told this reporter that drivers of Islamabad and Rawalpindi police, Nelour Factory, the Capital Development Authority and a number of ministries were involved in selling petrol, cheating their bosses.

He said the drivers filled their vehicle’s petrol tank and later sold half of it to illegal buyers.

This activity is usually carried out during the night and early hours of morning, he added.

One of the investigation officers told this reporter that the higher authorities were well aware about this activity, but they ignored.

The police said they had made arrangements to track down the drivers involved in the business.
