FAISALABAD, Sept 23: A ‘special committee’ of the National Assembly has summoned top interior and police officials on Wednesday (today) to probe the Thikriwala police baton-charge of villagers, use of teargas and implication of protesters on terrorism charges.

Sources said the committee had been constituted on a call-attention notice of local MNA Dr Nisar Ahmed.

The committee has reportedly summoned the Federal Secretary of Interior, Punjab Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, IGP, Faisalabad DIG, DPO, Sadar SP and Thikriwala SHO.

The mover reportedly told the National Assembly that the Thikriwala SHO and Sadar SP and ASP had led the baton charge, used teargas shells and resorted to aerial firing on a mob of over 1,000 villagers who were demonstrating against police failure in controlling the law and order situation in the area.

The MNA alleged that the entire area of Sadar sub-division had become a haven for criminals due to the poorperformance of the police. — Staff Correspondent
