‘Govt spending Rs740m on wheat supply to N. Areas’


SKARDU, Sept 23: Director Civil Supplies Northern Areas Muneeruddin has said that the federal government is spending Rs740 million for supply of wheat on subsidized rates to the people of the Northern Areas.

He said this in an interview during his visit to Skardu and Ghangche districts.

He said that civil supplies department of the Northern Areas was purchasing wheat from different parts of the country through PASCO and 70,000 tons of wheat was being supplied to five districts of the Northern Areas through 60 depots.

The federal government was spending only Rs250 million for the transportation of wheat at the doorsteps of the people of the region.

He said the government had supplied wheat to all depots for five months and at Gultari for the whole year.

One hundred and sixty thousand bags of wheat had been allocated for Skardu district while 70,000 bags for Ghangche district, he added.—PPI
