Work on Malakand plan to be expedited

PESHAWAR, Sept 23: NWFP Senior Minister, Sirajul Haq has said that the provincial government has adopted a result-oriented policy to expedite work under the Malakand Rural Development Programme (MRDP).

He said this while responding to a call attention notice moved by MPA Sabira Shakir during the provincial assembly session.

Ms Sabira Shakir of the MMA expressed concern over the poor condition of roads in the Malakand division.

She said the people were succumbing to inferiority complex due to the fact that their area had been constantly neglected by successive governments.

The call attention notice was supported by MPA Muhammad Amin who said about half of NWFP’s population resided in the Malakand division but no development work had been undertaken there.

The division had a number of beautiful tourist resorts but due to poor condition of roads, tourists were reluctant to visit the region, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Sirajul Haq admitted that the pace of work under the MRDP was slow.

The present government, he said, had adopted a result-oriented policy for expediting the pace of work under the programme being funded by the Asian Development Bank.

The provincial assembly, he added, had also constituted a house committee to inspect progress of work under the MRDP.—APP
