ANP tries to win back SQM

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, Sept 23: The Awami National Party leadership has contacted the leaders of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz to rejoin their party for strengthening of anti-Kalabagh dam movement and foiling the government designs to construct this  controversial project.

Insiders and key leaders of the SQM told Dawn here on Monday that the message was conveyed to the SQM leaders through a key leader a few days back.

The ANP had already succeeded to bring back the former chief of National Awami Party Pakistan Ajmal Khattak and chairman of Human Rights Commission Afrasiab Khattak to its folds,

However, the SQM leaders said that they had rejected the idea of rejoining of the ANP because they were well aware of its internal politics, saying they were not interested to become scapegoat of the new strategy of the Walibagh leaders.

About the SQM stand on the Kalabagh dam, the sources said that two days back the party top leadership had held wide-ranging talks on this issue and discussed in detail the prevailing situation and the party’s stand.
