By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 23: Several persons, including five children and two firemen, fell unconscious after inhaling ammonia gas in Liaquatabad on Tuesday.

Police said that a leaking gas cylinder was lying in a commercial area in Liaquatabad No 8. The gas leak caused several people to faint.

Five children, including two sisters Mahreen, Shireen and their brother Shahzad and two others Ali Tayyab and Danial, also fainted. All the children were taken to the Sindh Government Hospital, Liaquatabad.

Three passers-by, including Fahim, Saleem and Mohammad Rizwan also fell unconscious. They were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment.

Following the incident, officials of the fire brigade rushed to the spot. However, two firemen Mukhtar and Qamar Ali fell unconscious after inhaling the gas.

According to the police, the cylinder was found abounded outside a shop in Liaquatabad and no one claimed its ownership. Police suspected that the cylinder belonged to one of the shops located in the area, but every shop owner disowned it after the incident.
