KARACHI: Body formed to review varsity exam system
KARACHI, Sept 23: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has formed a high-powered committee, comprising vice-chancellors of all public sector varsities, to review prevailing examination system and suggest a uniform and flawless exam pattern for the students.
The committee will initiate a detailed study to locate flaws in existing examination system, being followed by all the public sector varsities, and propose steps to streamline and improve the same.
“The report of the study, after its finalization, would be presented to HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman and reforms suggested by the committee would be introduced shortly,” KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Saeed Saify informed PPI on Tuesday.
He said the decision to form a committee was taken at a meeting of all VCs of public sector varsities of the country with Dr Atta in Islamabad, where the decision to appoint external examiners to monitor examination process in public sector varsities was also taken.
Dr Saify said Prof Dr Atta was not satisfied with prevailing pattern of examinations and he desired involvement of neutral examiners, as well as students in the process of assessment.
“Currently some of the public sector varsities are following annual exam system, while others are following semester exam system and it is immensely difficult to introduce a fresh system,” Dr Saify conceded, however, adding that it could be reformed and streamlined.
He said examination experts had been included in the HEC review committee and it was believed that its suggestions would help improve the standard and quality of education, to make it acceptable internationally.—PPI
