KARACHI, Sept 22: About 50 houses in block 20 of Federal B Area have been getting contaminated water for the last one-and-a-half month, the affected residents said on Wednesday.

They lamented that although such a big number of households (from R-841 to R-860, R-811 to R-820 and A-60 to A-63) had been receiving filthy water for the last 45 days, the concerned officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department had not yet succeeded even in locating the fault responsible for problem.

“We have brought the lingering issue into the knowledge of the W&S department’s chief engineer (water supply) and the concerned executive engineer many a times, but they have, so far, failed to help resolve it,” a perturbed resident of the locality, Syed Mehdi Hassan, told Dawn.

Since the problem is persisting for so many days, they have to buy private tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of our health, he added.

The residents demanded of the city Nazim and the EDO of the department to direct the concerned officials to take measures on priority to resolve the problem as they could no more afford the costly tanker water.
