Legality captures feature event
LAHORE, Sept 21: Three-year-old bay filly Legality, admirably ridden by jockey Khurrum Sheikh was the lucky winner in the feature event of the second Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The filly backed at even-money favourite just managed to pip late rushing Moment to Moment with jockey Shahid Rehman in the saddle by a short-head verdict in photo-finish.
This was Legality’s fourth successive win during the current season since she won her career’s first victory on July 27.
Dhandhana, who led the field till the home bend finally finished third while Zargar completed the frame. Earlier Snow Drop and Swimmer were withdrawn from the race leaving only ten runners in the field. The winner clocked one minute one second over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres of this seventh race of the day.
Odds-on favourite three-year-old bay colt Ponchi won the supporting and sixth event run over 1000 metres from Amazing by over five lengths handily. Mahnoor finished third three lengths further behind while Glorious Song completed the board, a distance behind among eight runners.
Bay colt Tora Bora produced a remarkable improvement to gain a five lengths success in the fifth race run over 1000 metres. The colt gave an arm-chair ride to jockey M. Hanif, who had only to guide the colt on the railing to an easy sailing over Green Hill. Imagine Iff and Puma King completed the frame among only six runners.
Tora Bora showed tremendous speed and proved too classy against her five rivals who came staggering behind in a procession one after the other.
The bay colt Bone Crusher won the third race to complete a hat-trick of victories. Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman, he beat Much Pleasure by about two lengths.
Jockey Shahid Rehman once again excelled in the saddle when he brought in a brace of winners to the great delight of his followers. He first sailed in Two-B in the second race and then steered Bone Crusher in the following event.
Trainer Mohammed Bashir saddled two winners Tora Bora in the fifth race and Ponchi in the sixth to earn distinction among trainers. His both winners are owned by Khawaja M. Arif.
This was a good day for the punters when favourites made a clean sweep in the card of seven events. They began the day on a happy note when 5 to 4 favourite Lovely Diana won to her liking in the opener. Then followed the favourites in a stream till the last race bagged by Legality an even-money favourite.
