Pakistan elected to IAEA body

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: Pakistan has been elected a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors for 2003-05.

According to a press release, this was unanimously decided by the IAEA’s Middle East and South Asia region and the decision was announced during the 47th regular session of the IAEA General Conference now in progress in Vienna, Austria.

The reelection of Pakistan to the IAEA’s Board of Governors speaks of the trust and confidence that the international nuclear community places in Pakistan for its relentless efforts to promote the objectives of the agency and the interests of the developing member states, it added.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission chairman, Parvez Butt, will serve as the governor on the IAEA board during its new term.
