Traders call off strike

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: The traders on Friday withdrew a strike call given for Sept 23 after the government accepted their demands regarding income tax returns.

The decision was announced by All Pakistan Traders Alliance Chairman Khawaja Shafique at a press conference after a meeting of a 14-member traders team with Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz.

“The government has accepted all of our demands regarding the income tax returns and issued a notification in this regard. We have decided to call off the countrywide strike of Sept 23”, he announced.

He said the government had accepted small traders’ demand that the books of accounts might not be insisted upon in case of taxpayers whose last assessed income was up to Rs250,000 and were selected for audit.
