QUETTA, Sept 18: The Balochistan Assembly will discuss the law and order situation in the province on Saturday.
An adjournment motion of Naseem Turyala of the Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, related to poor law and order situation in Qila Abdullah district was admitted on Thursday. The house would debate the law and order situation in the province for two hours on Saturday.
A privilege motion of opposition leader Kachkol Ali Baloch was disposed of following assurance by the planning and development minister that a meeting on the public sector development programme (PSDP) would be held on Friday.
Senior minister Maulana Abdul Wasay, speaking on the motion, blamed some political groups for misleading the people on the funding of Italian government.
He said Oman had provided Rs5 billion on the condition that it be utilized in the coastal areas. Funds given by Japan and Germany would be spent for canal schemes in Nasirabad, while Italy’s aid of Rs2.9 billion was dedicated for projects in areas where Afghan refugees camps were established, he said.
Mr Baloch and PMAP member Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal accused Chief Minister Jam Mohammed Yousaf and the minister of deviating their promises made on the floor about a joint meeting to discuss the PSDP.
The opposition members said the government had failed to start proceedings of the committee on the irregularities committed in recruitment in the Balochistan University.
The opposition staged a walkout when Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar asked Mr Ziaratwal finish his speech.
The house adopted a resolutions moved by Maulvi Ataullah of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal demanding that the federal government should extend the fixed flat rate of electricity on tubewells for farmers until 2010 in view of drought and the areas backwardness. The system ended in March.
A resolution moved by Mr Ziaratwal, stressing upon the government to implement provincial quota in the federal services was also adopted.
Through a resolution, the assembly urged the federal government to recruit local engineers in the Gwadar port project. It adopted a resolution of Sardar Azam Musakhel demanding construction of dams in Musakhel to store floodwater for irrigation.
