Convention widens rift in Okara PPP
OKARA, Sept 17: The PPP has split up in three groups in the district after its workers’ convention held at the residence of former MPA and PPP leader Rana Ikram Rabbani the other day.
Rana Ikram Rabbani is leading a group which has the support of a large group of workers under the leadership of Okara PPP sub-division president Abdul Sattar Wahla and PPP district labour bureau’s Shaikh Tasawwar Hussain.
Similarly, PPP Deepalpur tehsil president Sibtain Khan Bhatti advocate and secretary-general and party ticket holder Maj Ijaz Shahid Mohal (retired) are also supporting Mr Rabbani.
The second group is led by PPP district secretary-general and city MPA Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna. He has the backing of city PPP workers.
The third group comprises workers who are still close to defence minister Rao Sikander Iqbal. His supporters are of the view that since they had voted Rao Iqbal they should also seek his help in resolving their problems. However, they say that in future they will support the leader who will have the backing of the party chairperson.
It had been unanimously demanded in the Monday’s six-hour-long party workers’ convention that the party provincial and central leadership should revive the party in the Okara district. It was also resolved that true and ideological workers should be accommodated in the party organization to make Okara the mini Larkana as it had been dreamt of by the party founder.
It was also demanded that the seven false cases registered against provincial party ticket holder Maj Ijaz Shahid Mohal (retired) should be withdrawn as he was implicated in these cases at the beck and call of his political rivals.
They had also threatened that if these cases were not withdrawn, the party workers would stage a sit-in and observe a hunger strike camp in front of the police station concerned.
On the occasion, city’s renowned social worker Maj Javaid Sindhu (retired) along with his dozens of friends had also announced to join the PPP. — Correspondent
