KARACHI: Boy kidnapped, killed in Mehmoodabad

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 17: A teenage boy was kidnapped for ransom and killed subsequently in Mehmoodabad, the police and the Citizen- Police Liaison Committee said on Wednesday.

According to the anti-violent crime cell and the CPLC, Mohammad Omar, 16, a student of Class-IX, went missing after he left his school in Phase-I of Defence Housing Society on Tuesday afternoon. As he did not return home, the family got perturbed and contacted the police and the CPLC.

“We came to know that Omar was seen last with Waqar (Omar’s friend). Waqar was the resident of Mehmoodabad and his home was located near the school. First ransom call, demanding Rs3 million ransom for his release, was received in the evening,” the CPLC chief, Sharfuddin Memon, told Dawn.

He said that a joint team of the AVCC and the CPLC located Waqar and picked him up. The final call of kidnappers was received in the midnight and the caller ordered to take the ransom amount at a graveyard in Mehmoodabad. At the time of the last call, Waqar was already in police custody, he added.

Mr Memon said, “In the meantime, Waqar pointed out the place, where the captive was lodged. Police and CPLC team raided the house in Street No.4 of Akhtar Colony and found Omar’s body in a gunny bag. His mouth and nose were fastened with adhesive tape and his head was hit with a hard and blunt weapon,” he added.

The body was shifted to Jinnah hospital for post-mortem examination, he added.

During the initial interrogation with Waqar, it was revealed that the captors had killed the boy while fearing of being identified if Omar was released. Waqar first took Omar at his home and then his accomplices Arshad and Imran alias Raja forcibly took him to another house. They immediately killed Omar and later demanded the ransom.

Police said that two of their accomplices Akhtar and Kashif had also participated in the planning, but, they did not join them in its execution. Police claimed the arrest of both Akhtar and Kashif.

An FIR has been registered with the Mehmoodabad police station and the police are looking for absconding kidnappers Arshad and Imran.
