SUKKUR, Sept 16: A bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur, on Tuesday ordered the Mari gas field management to pay compensation for lands where wells were being drilled.
The order was passed on a petition filed by Naveed Shar, son of peasant leader Mandhal Shar, against the management of the gas field and the Ghotki police.
The petitioner maintained that the management had not compensated the area people for their lands while the drilling work had been started.
He further said the police had cordoned off their village, Karohi, for the last one month and the residents were confined to their houses and they could not leave their village even in case of emergency.
The bench, comprising Justice Zahid Qurban Alvi and Justice Maqbool Badar, also ordered the DPO of Ghotki to lift the siege.
PROTEST: The people held a protest demonstration against Hesco officials in the Imam Bux Jatoi village, near Pano Aqil, Sukkur district, on Monday as they were not taking care of a live wire which was endangering people’s lives and had already led to three incidents.
In the latest incident, three buffaloes belonging to one Bahawal Jatoi got entangled in the Hesco wire lying on the ground and died on the spot, while six were injured.
When two Hesco linemen arrived there, the villagers manhandled them and snatched their office ID cards. They also started protesting against Hesco.
The villagers demanded senior officials of Hesco to take action against the negligent officials concerned.
DEMO: The Sukkur Shehri Ittehad held a protest demonstration against the administration of the Civil Hospital Sukkur on Monday.
A man, Hafeezullah Lashari, was injured and admitted to the Civil Hospital on Sunday where doctors refused to operate on him.
His relatives said that the doctors demanded Rs40,000 for the operation; therefore, he was taken to Larkana.
Meanwhile, his relatives, led by the Shehri Ittehad, held a protest demonstration against the inhuman attitude of the doctors of the Civil Hospital Sukkur.
They demanded the hospital administration to take action against the doctors concerned.
MAN KILLED: Some armed men shot dead a man, Qalander Bux Khoso, in the Qadirpur village, Jacobabad district, on Monday when he was returning after burying his sister.
His relatives accused their own tribesmen of killing him.
