Ahmed scores qualifying score

KARACHI, Sept 15: Pakistan’s skeet shooter Ahmed Sultan collected a fine score of 116/125 in the skeet event of International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Championship at Nicosia (Cyprus), according to information received here Monday.

Twenty six year-old Ahmed, who missed the ticket to Sydney Olympics in 2000, three year’s ago after a exciting trials with arch-rival Khurram Inam, secured 42nd in presence of world’s leading 128 shooters.

Andrzej Glyda of Poland become the skeet world champion with 146/150. Shawn Dulohery of USA was second with 145/150 and Di Jn of China was third with 145/150. Kyraacos Chritoforou of Cyprush was fourth with 145/150 and Kuwaist Zaid Almutairi was fifth at 144/150.

This is third time when Ahmed has achieved the maximum qualifying score (MQS) required to feature in Olympics.

Over 850 shooters representing 74 countries are taking part in the shotgun world championship. Besides skeet, trap and double trap are contested in the championship.—APP
