HR prize to Indian journalist, Pakistani analyst

NUREMBERG, Sept 14: Indian journalist Nesta Setalvad and Director of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan I. A. Rehman were handed this year’s International Nuremberg Human Rights Prize on Sunday.

Nuremberg Mayor Ulrich Maly praised the two for their battle against prejudice, hate and violence in their respective countries.

In naming Ms Setalvad and Mr Rehman, the human rights prize jury cited their courage and the personal risks they had taken on in the battle for the rights of minorities, for democracy and social justice.

The two also were cited for working tirelessly for peace and cooperation between India and Pakistan.

The prize, awarded every two years, carries with it a 15,000 euro (16,800 dollar) award.—dpa
