Lankan peace talks set to resume

By Our Correspondent

COLOMBO, Sept 14: Norway is expected to renew its efforts to resume the stalled government-LTTE peace talks with the arrival of its facilitators in Colombo this week.

Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgessen and special envoy Erik Solheim, who are expected in Colombo on Wednesday, will ponder over crucial issues such as the LTTE’s counter proposals to the Northeast interim administration and on the challenges faced by the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Trincomalee.

Diplomatic sources said that the Norwegians will have a series of important discussions with government leaders. This week marks the completion of one year since the much acclaimed peace talks between the government and the LTTE got under way in Sathahip, Thailand.
