Published September 14, 2003

KARACHI, Sept 13: A man died and another was injured on Saturday when a Hyderababd-bound bus hit a rickshaw, uprooted an electric pole and rammed into a compound wall of a residential complex near the Guru Mandir intersection.

The bus (JA-2125) belonging to the M Asif Coach fleet was heading towards Guru Mandir on Jahangir Road. It tried to negotiate a sharp turn at the signal and hit a rickshaw (D-15029) which was running at a slow pace on the extreme left. The speeding bus did not stop and uprooted an electric pole installed on the footpath, snapping electric wires, and rammed into a compound wall damaging it partially.

The rickshaw was completely destroyed and its driver, identified as Pervez, 40, died on the spot. A pedestrian, Waqar, 22, suffered injuries.

An eyewitness told Dawn that two Hyderabad-bound buses were trying to overtake each other and caused the accident. The other bus sped away. The body of the bus was inscribed with Soofi Sikandar Gaddi Brothers. The witness could not note down its registration number.
