KARACHI, Sept 13: Various parts of Lyari Town on Saturday went without water owing to sinking of a 33-inch dia pipeline.

The hard-hit localities included Usmanabad, Lea Market, Agra Taj Colony, Bihar Colony, Chakiwara, Bakra Pirri, Machhar Colony, Tannery Road, Atmaram Preetam Das Road, Mirza Adam Khan Road, Dhobi Ghat area, Amil Shah Bukhari Road, Shah Waliullah Road.

Water supply to all these localities was stopped on Friday following a 33-inch dia pipeline sank at Lyari’s Dhobi Ghat, near Mirza Adam Khan Road, during some excavation work.

Officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department said that repairing of the sunk pipeline had already begun and all the affected localities would begin getting normal supply in a couple of days.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from Clifton’s Block 2, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 2, Shershah, SITE and different sectors of North Karachi, Orangi, Baldia and Surjani Town.

Residents of the affected localities suspect that the main cause of persisting water shortage was the curtailment in the duration of their supply timings.

The other localities which went without water on Saturday as part of the city government’s plan of diverting Indus water to the localities hooked to former District West included the entire PECHS, KDA Scheme-1, Sharfabad, KACH Society, Civic Centre, Mehmoodabad No 5, Liaquatabad and Gharibabad.
