S. Korea retain Asian title

BEIJING, Sept 12: South Korea defended its title at the 12th Asian Men’s Volleyball championships in Tianjin Friday, coming from behind to beat China in the final 3-2.

The result means South Korea and Japan automatically take the Asian berths for the World Cup in Japan in November.

Earlier, Iran had beaten Australia in the third-place play-off 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12). India was placed fifth.

China was left with the silver medal after the four-team round-robin final round.

The final score was 27-25, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-8 South Korea’s way.—AFP
