Klusener eager to tour Pakistan

JOHANNESBURG, Sept 11: All-rounder Lance Klusener wants to travel to Pakistan with the South African cricket team in 11 days’ time.

The “forgotten” all-rounder of South African cricket says he will board a plane tomorrow if he is selected. “Absolutely. I’m available,” said Klusener.

The national selectors are to meet towards end of this week to select the team for the tour, which will include three one-day internationals and three Test matches.

Klusener performed well for South Africa on the Sub-continent in the past, and boasts career-best one-day bowling figures of 6-49 against Sri Lanka in Lahore, Pakistan and career-best Test-match figures of 8-64 against India in Calcutta.

Convener of selectors Omar Henry says he is not in a position to talk about Klusener. The player is involved in a dispute with United Cricket Board (UCB) of South Africa after his contract with UCBSA was not renewed.

Klusener was allegedly referred to as a “disruptive element” by captain Graeme Smith after this year’s World Cup tournament.

It appears as if seam bowlers Charl Willoughby, Dewald Pretorius and Monde Zondeki will not all make the squad for tour of Pakistan, since there is a feeling among the selectors that their bowling is more suited to South African conditions.

Referring to security situation in Pakistan, Henry said UCBSA and the government would obtain all relevant information beforehand, but should green light for the tour be given, selectors must have their squad at the ready.—PPI
