KARACHI: Two shot dead by robbers

KARACHI, Sept 11: An official of the Pakistan Navy and a bandit died in an exchange of fire between them in North Nazimabad on Thursday evening.

Police said that three armed men came at Nafees Stationary Shop located in Block E North Nazimabad and robbed the shopkeeper of Rs1000 at gunpoint. A customer, Hilal Ahmed Ansari, 25, who was a Navy lieutenant standing at the shop in plain cloths, took out his pistol. One of the bandits opened fire at him before he could shoot.

The injured lieutenant returned the fire, and thus ensued an exchange. As a result, both the lieutenant and the bandit suffered serious wounds. The bandit died on the spot and his two accomplices escaped from the spot.

Lieutenant Hilal Ahmed Ansari was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the robber was also shifted to the hospital where he was identified as Mir Sadiq from an identity card found on him. Police said Mr Hilal was a resident of Block-A North Nazimabad.

A middleaged man was shot dead by armed bandits in Gulzar-i-Hijri on Thursday.

Police said that Safeerur Rehman, 50, was returning home to Millat Town, Gulzar-i-Hijri, after drawing an amount of Rs2.4 million from a bank located on I.I. Chundrigar Road. He was carrying Rs1 million and Rs1.4 million in two different bags.

As he got off a passenger bus near Shorab Goth, two young men on a motorcycle intercepted him at Al-Asif Square and tried to snatch the bags. On Safeer’s resistance the bandits shot him in the chest and escaped after snatching the bag containing Rs1.4 million, leaving behind the other bag.

The victim who was bleeding profusely was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

ACCIDENTS: A young man died in a road traffic accident at Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road on Thursday.

Police said that Kamran, 18, was knocked down by a speeding vehicle. He was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment. The vehicle escaped from the spot following the accident.

In another incident, a young girl Seema, aged 7, was knocked down by an unidentified speeding vehicle in the Sachal police limits. Police said the young victim was crossing the road when the vehicle struck.
