KARACHI, Sept 10: Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, Chairman, Sindh National Front, talking to party workers at his Karachi residence, wondered whether the Sindh government knew that no forum, like the Council of Common Interests (CCI), exists today where matter of Thal canal could be brought up?

The SNF chairman said the CCI existed during the era of late Z.A. Bhutto, and thereafter Nawaz Sharif once called its meeting while other rulers even did not even convene its meeting because the demand for transfer of powers from Islamabad to the provinces in the CCI could have created a situation which would have brought the federal system to an end.

According to him, the main thing in water issue is that three out of four provinces and 8 crore people of these provinces have rejected the construction of new dams and canals. After this the announcements by the President and the Prime Minister have no meaning what does a committee matter.

Replying to questions about lawlessness, he said that it is out of control of the government and held the police and judiciary responsible for it.

He said: “Lawlessness has increased so much that innocent children are not safe.” In this regard, he particularly referred to situation in district Larkana where kidnapping of innocent children was at its peak.

The SNF chief said: “People are out on streets in Sindh proof of which is available in Sindhi papers.” He warned if in future these protests take an organized shape, the rulers won’t even able to run away.
