KARACHI, Sept 10: All eligible female applicants, including D and E graders, have been placed for admission to first-year Pre-Engineering classes at city colleges and higher secondary schools.

The placement list for the Pre-Engineering faculty was released on Wednesday. Students are required to deposit the requisite college fee within seven days, otherwise their names would be deleted from the list.

According to Executive District Officer (Higher Education), Prof Rais Alvi, who is also the chairman of the admission committee set up under the Centralized Admission Policy 2003, 774 seats of the faculty at different institutions are likely to remain unoccupied as the number of applicants is less than the total number of seats allocated for admission.

As many as 6221 female students were listed for admissions to the faculty against a total allocation of 6995 seats at 43 colleges and higher secondary schools. Last year a total of 5992 females were admitted to Pre-Engineering classes.

An EDO office notification said that admission merit at 21 colleges had increased for the year 2003. The closing marks for admission at St Joseph’s Government College for Women remained as 744, while last year it was at 737.

Increase in admission cutoff marks has also been observed in the case of PECHS Government College for Women, St Lawrence College and Sir Syed Government College for Women.

A maximum of 300 seats were allocated for admission at Sir Syed College, Sharah-i-Liaquat College and Khatoon-i-Pakistan College.

The CAP committee announced to set up three centres for receiving claim forms from applicants having any objection to the list or their placement at educational institutions. The centres would work at Sir Syed Government College for Women, Government College for Women, Shahrah-i-Liaquat, and Khurshid Government College for Women.
