HYDERABAD, Sept 9: The Provincial Administrative Council of Sindh Professor and Lecturers Association at a meeting held on Monday decided to hold a protest demonstration from the Government Degree College, Sukkur, and observe a sit-in outside the office of the EDO (Education) for the removal of EDO Rafia Naz Pathan.
Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan presided over the meeting.
It expressed grave concern over the government decision to appoint lecturers on contract basis.
It appealed to the Sindh government to appoint new lecturers through the Sindh Public Service Commission on a permanent basis.
It demanded that the notification in respect of the approved promotions of lecturers, librarian, etc., should be issued without delay and the PhD allowance should be increased from Rs1,500 to Rs5,000.
It further demanded that the house rent should be fixed at 70 per cent of the basic salary, medical allowance should be fixed at the rate of Rs2,000 per month, and a girls’ degree college should be established at Shahdadpur.
It further demanded that the junior and inefficient principals of the Government College, Tandojam, and the junior EDO, Education, Dadu, should be removed forthwith.
The meeting strongly opposed the appointments on contract basis and grant of extension to the retired professors.
HDA: The director-general of Hyderabad Development Authority, Ali Ahmed Lund, while presiding over a meeting of taxation department officials on Tuesday warned that any recovery officer who failed to achieve the recovery target would not only have to face departmental action but it would be recommended to the higher authorities to terminate the services of inefficient officers.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of the taxation department during the month of July, he also issued show-cause notices to some officers while orders for disciplinary action were issued against others.
Speaking on the occasion, Wasa managing director Tahir Ahmed said if the taxation department failed to improve the recovery position, he will recommend to the Sindh government to privatize the tax collection department.
He directed that the pace of recovery of water charges should be accelerated.
He directed the circle managers, commercial, to take strict action against defaulters.
