Row settled amicably, LHCBA told

LAHORE, Sept 8: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president took the house into confidence on Monday regarding his meeting with Chief Justice Iftikhar Husain Chaudhry on a controversy arising due to an LHC employee’s thrashing by four lawyers last week.

The bar-bench tension had eased the other day when Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari along with some other senior lawyers had met the CJ in his chamber and both the sides had vowed to bury the matter once and for all.

A full house of the LHCBA had already been summoned for Monday which was informed by Mr Ansari that things had been amicably sorted out and the “bar had got rid of the conflict with dignity which could have aggravated in days to come.”

He gave the details of the Saturday’s meeting saying the LHCBA had made the decision in the best interest of both the bar and the bench.

He acknowledged that the personal request of the CJ to see the LHCBA members in his private chamber was a sagacious move which had averted a feared turmoil.

“The patchup has averted only a clash between the bar and the bench while to win the hearts of the respected members of the bar, the CJ would have to take many more steps in near future which we have knowingly left for him to be considered in detail,” Mr Ansari said, adding that the LHCBA had made an unconditional compromise and there was no need to mention as to what had been conveyed to the CJ during the meeting by the LHCBA members.

He requested the members to overcome their heated sentiments in the wake of the CJ’s friendly gesture and assured them that it was their unity which had saw the row ending in an amicable manner.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan and other senior lawyers were also present on this occasion.
