Intellectual property rights body to be set up
ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: The government has decided to send the draft bill on Pakistan intellectual property rights organization (Pipro) to the law division for vetting, following the receipt of views from stakeholders.
According to an announcement, a meeting presided over by Commerce Secretary Kamal Afsar on Friday deliberated upon the administrative and legal prerequisites and modalities for the establishment of Pipro.
Representatives from the industries, agriculture, finance and education ministries, the establishment division and the National Accreditation Council attended the meeting.
Currently, three offices under different ministries are dealing with intellectual property rights — the trademarks registry and the patent and copyright offices.
While approving the trade policy, the cabinet had directed that Pipro be set up to facilitate protection of intellectual property rights.—APP
