LAHORE, Sept 6: The Pakistan Council of Townplanners and Architects has protested against the appointment of a non-professional as the chairman of the Anomaly Committee on Karachi Building and Townplanning Regulations 2002.

A spokesman said in a statement issued here on Saturday that council chairman had been nominated as the anomaly committee head twice in the past.

The Sindh governor had nominated the council chairman as the head of the seven-member committee, constituted for framing the regulations in May 1999. The committee finalized the regulations in March 2000, and submitted to the governor.

The council chairman also headed the public hearing and review committee on these regulations and was subsequently nominated as head of the first anomaly committee constituted in April 2002 by the Sindh governor.

The council chairman was again nominated as the head of the reconstituted committee in September 2002.

The spokesman said that council chairman had been nominated as the head of the committee constituted to frame the Karachi Building and Townplanning Regulations and the anomaly committees formed for the review of the same because of being an expert on the subject and the elected head of the townplanners and architects community of the country.

A non-professional, however, been nominated as the chairman of the new anomaly committee and the position of the chairman of the Pakistan Council of Architects and Townplanners had been relegated to that of an ordinary member.
