ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: Under-19 players Farhan Mahboob and Haider Jamal qualified for the main round of the 7th Hashim Khan National Junior Squash Championship on Friday.
While Farhan, of PAF had an easy sailing, his rival Shahroom Khan retiring with the score 9-0, Punjab’s Haider had to work hard in beating province-mate Yasir Sarwar 9-7, 9-1, 10-9.
Others making the main round from the same age group were Sajid Khan of NWFP and Punjab’s Adil Atlas.
Sajid edged past Waseem Gul of Punjab 9-7, 9-1, 10-9 while Adil was extended to four games before overpowering Muhammad Naveed, another player from Punjab, 9-2, 6-9, 9-2, 9-0.
In the under-17s competition, Alamzeb Jnr, Muhammad Ali, Asim Shahzad and Zahir Shah were the qualifiers with only Asim having a tough time in edging out Waqar Ahmed 9-10, 10-8, 9-3, 9-1.
Alamzeb Jnr, of PAF outplayed Zohaib Ahmed 9-1, 9-2, 9-1 and Muhammad Ali knocked out Ahmed Jilani 9-0, 9-7, 9-1. Zahir Shah booked the last available berth with a 9-6, 9-3, 9-3 win over NWFP’s Alamgir Rehman.
Ayazullah led the under-15s into the main round by overcoming the challenge of Kashif Javed whom he beat 6-9, 9-3, 9-0, 9-2. Naveed Khan, Naveed Alam and Umair Mateen were the others to go through with straight games wins.
Nasir Iqbal, Aurangzeb, Mujhaid Hussain and Muhammad Bilal advanced to the main draw from the under-13 age group.
