Man gets death sentence

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Sept 4: A man was awarded death sentence on two counts by an additional district and sessions judge for killing two persons, while his mother was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Mohammad Arshad will also pay Rs200,000 as compensation to the bereaved family, Judge Mian Mohammad Shafi observed.

The convict had killed Mohammad Azeem and Mohammad Ramzan over a family matter in the jurisdiction of Chauntra police station.

The prosecution had also alleged that Arshad’s mother, Zaitoon Bibi, was involved in the case. However, it failed to provide any evidence about her involvement in the murder. The court, therefore, acquitted Zaitoon Bibi.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Akram Awan, dismissed a case against a man accused of killing his wife after both parties reached an out-of-court agreement.

Abdur Rashid had allegedly killed his wife, Nadia, in the jurisdiction of R.A. Bazaar police station. Nadia was not allowing Abdur Rashid to marry for the second time.
