Published September 5, 2003

LARKANA, Sept 4: A large number of highway workers, affiliated with the Highways Employees Union, took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest against the continuous ban on recruitments in Sindh.

Led by Manzoor Ahmed Aheer and Amir Bakhsh Lashari, the procession converged outside the local press club where the protesters, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans.

They said the government had banned recruitment in the highway department for the last seven years and also refused to accommodate the wards of the workers.

The government had also withdrawn the age relaxation facility due to which the educated youth waiting for jobs had almost crossed the age limits, they complained.

They demanded that the ban be lifted and the age relaxation facility be given to the aspirants. Their demands were also endorsed by various labour unions.

The speakers said the protest would continue till the acceptance of the demands.
