Canada releases another suspect

TORONTO, Sept 4: A third person taken into custody in August in raids conducted by an anti-terrorism task force has been released, an immigration official confirmed on Thursday.

Mohammad Naheem, 34, was ordered released Wednesday on a 15,000 Canadian dollars bond, said Charles Hawkins, a spokesman for the federal Immigration and Refugee Board.

Naheem was among the 20 Pakistanis and one Indian, who were rounded up in Aug 14 raids on immigration charges and some as potential national security threats.

Documents detailing his detention review hearings said he used bogus school documents to stay in Canada.

Two of the 21 men had already been released on bail, but are due to re-appear before the board on immigration issues. Hawkins could not say whether Naheem will have another hearing.—AFP
