RAWALPINDI, Sept 3: The performance of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police is satisfactory despite being overburdened with protocol and security duties.

This was stated by the inspector general of police (IGP), Mohammad Akram, while talking to journalists at Rescue-15 Centre on Wednesday.

The IGP said the behaviour of the police with the citizens was also far better than the expectations and they were doing well in checking the crime rate in the ICT limits.

Mr Akram termed a statement published in a section of press regarding his remarks about the parliamentarians untrue and false.

“All the parliamentarians are respectable for us and the press statement attributed to me was untrue,” he added.

The IGP said enough funds had been provided to the ICT police by the government to meet the shortage of equipment and vehicles. However, a proposal for induction of 411 assistant sub-inspectors is being considered to meet the shortage of police personnel, he added.

Mr Akram also discussed residential problems being faced by the police officials. He assured them that a number of cases regarding the welfare of police personnel had been sent to government, while some projects had already been launched.

He said after 9/11 incident, the priorities of the police had changed. Foreign experts are imparting training in forensic science to police officers selected from across the country, he added.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch said the CIA staff involved in a taxi driver torture case would not be spared, if found guilty in the inquiry report.
