KARACHI: KBCA told to refer cases to city govt

KARACHI, Sept 3: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Tuesday directed the KBCA to refer all cases pertaining to regularization or demolition of illegal buildings to the city government’s high-powered committee.

The committee has been empowered to take a final decision with regard to illegal buildings on case to case basis.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday with the City Nazim in the chair and was attended by the DCO, Karachi, Mir Hussain Ali; Executive district officer (Master Plan), Zaigham Jaffery; EDO (Law) Manzoor Ahmed; EDO (Revenue) Mohammad Hussain Syed, Building Control department’s Brig S A Nasir, City Council’s member Saifuddin, advocate and other senior officials.

The meeting decided that henceforth the KBCA recommendations’ concerning regularization or demolition of illegally constructed buildings will have to be referred to the high-powered committee set up for the purpose by the City Nazim and the committee after discussing such cases will intimate about its decision to the KBCA.

The Nazim on this occasion also asked the KBCA to regularize the illegally constructed buildings strictly in accordance with the directives issued by the President Pervez Musharraf recently and help improve the city government’s income.

He said since it was not possible to demolish all illegally constructed buildings and in which people are already residing, such buildings be regularized, instead of demolishing them. However, a final decision concerning regularisation of such buildings would be taken by the high-powered committee on case to case basis, he added.

KACHCHI ABADIS: About illegal constructions taking place in kachchi abadis and other parts of the city, the meeting was informed that since it the responsibility of the KBCA to check and bring a halt to such unlawful constructions, it should act swiftly in this regard.

The meeting was told that the KBCA had referred 700 cases, involving land utilization, to the Master Plan Department for seeking its opinion.
