KARACHI: Two women gang-raped, cop injured

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 3: Two women were subjected to gang-rape by unknown persons in Orangi Town on Tuesday night.

Police said the husband of one of the victims reported to the Orangi Town police station on Tuesday night that six persons scaled the wall of his house in sector 1-C, tied him up with ropes in a room and confined his wife and his neighbour’s wife in the next room.

Both the women, one in her early 40’s and the other in her mid 20’s, were subjected to gang-rape by six men, police said.

They said the husband of one of the victims had gone to Hyderabad in connection with some work and his wife came to her neighbour’s house where she too fell victim to the rapists.

On Wednesday police took the two women to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical examination. The hospital sources said the medical report had confirmed that rape had been committed.

SHO Orangi Town, Mutiullah, told Dawn that the couple had moved to their present house in sector 1-C, Orangi Town, about a week ago.

He described the circumstances surrounding the incident as confusing. He said that late on Tuesday night the complainant came to the police station and told police that earlier some ten to twelve men had come to his house pretending to be looking for some robber. However, an hour later six men entered the house and committed the offence, the SHO quoted the complainant as saying.

Police said that Arshad Mahmood, 25, was crossing the railway tracks when he got crushed beneath the locomotive.

His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the postmortem examination.

INJURED: A policeman was shot at and injured by unknown persons in Saeedabad on Wednesday morning.

Police said that Mohammad Umar, 25, was shot at near Suparco Chowk by unknown persons on a motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby private hospital. Later he was shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment, police added.
