KARACHI: Yunus Khan demands probe into murder

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 3: The only member of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Yunus Khan, on Wednesday claimed that the killing of Asif Baig, who was released on parole despite being a UTP in the Hakim Said murder case, was part of a conspiracy.

On a point of order, he questioned Asif Beg’s release on parole and demanded setting up of a judicial commission to conduct a probe into his murder, as well as that of Khalid Bin Waleed, a senior member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

His contention was that a UTP who is allegedly involved in crimes that carry death penalty, could not be released on parole. He was of the view that this represented significant deterioration in law and order situation in the city.

Senior minister Syed Sardar replied by saying that the government had taken serious notice of the murder of Asif Baig and seven others and police have been put on red alert and directed to apprehend the culprit.

He said that it appears that some elements were determined to create trouble as soon as situation starts improving, with an objective to shy away investment and destabilize the government.

Problem of water shortage in various areas of the city and the province was also raised on points of order by the members.

Rafiq advocate highlighted the water crisis in Lyari, despite water storage in Hub dam.

MMA’s Hafiz Naimur Rahman and Hameedullah advocate also raised the water problems of Baldia Town and SITE areas. MMA’s lady member also raised the problems being faced by the people in the interior of Sindh. Mehreen Bhutto of the PPP spoke about the pathetic condition of Khairpur Civil Hospital building.

Haji Munawar Abbasi of the PPP spoke on the problems being faced by the people of Larkana owing to lack of cleaning of canals.

The assembly press corps also deplored terrorism while condoling the killing of journalist Mohammad Akbar.
