Three Afghan soldiers held

QUETTA, Sept 2: Border security authorities arrested three Afghan armymen and a mortar shell was fired on a Pakistani checkpoint near Chaman from across the border on Tuesday.

“Three Afghan army personnel crossed into Pakistani area illegally with small weapons and a hand grenade,” border security authorities said.

The security officials handed over soldiers Baz Mohammad and Bismillah, and Najibullah, a non-commissioned junior officer to authorities concerned for interrogation.

A mortar shell, fired from Spin Buldak, exploded near a border post, Tanveer.

“We did not return fire,” a border security official said and added that no loss was reported in the attack.

The border authorities contacted Afghan officials in Spin Buldak and strongly protested over the incident, sources said.

They warned the Afghan authorities that such incidents would not be tolerated in future.
