PESHAWAR, Sept 2: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain has stressed the need for making collective efforts by all concerned to maintain law and order and redress people’s grievances on priority basis.

He was talking to a 10-member Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) delegation from Malakand Agency that called on him here on Tuesday.

Referring to the points raised by the delegation on this occasion, the governor said protection of life, honour and property of the people must be the core responsibility of the agencies concerned and they should give top priority to this aspect.  

He also urged the elected representatives of every tier of the system to extend due support and assistance to the government to achieve this goal.

In fact, he added, peaceful atmosphere was necessary to ensure constant and rapid development in every sector of life.

The governor expressed concern over the increasing incidents of car-lifting in the agency and directed the organizations concerned to take serious action to curb this curse.

About a proposal presented by the delegation to place certain pockets of the agency at the disposal of police on experimental basis to wipe out hideouts of proclaimed offenders, the governor held out the assurance that he would consult the authorities concerned to take necessary measures in this regard.

The delegation led by MNA Maulana Mohammad Inayatur Rehman also included Senator Sahibzada Khalid Jan, JUI leader Hameedullah, JI leader Maulana Mohammad Mukhtiar and Shabab-i-Milli Malakand  Agency president Rizwanullah.
