ISLAMABAD, Sept 1: Representatives of as many as 37 clubs have passed a resolution demanding fair elections of the Rawalpindi Cricket Association (RCA) and termed all its activities as illegal.
Masood Rana, president of Royal Club, who was in the chair told Dawn on Monday that 54 officials of various clubs attended the meeting held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The clubs accused the RCA which is headed by Masood Anwar of failing to respond to their requests for holding a general body meeting for over three years. “We sent in more than three requests to the RCA in this regard but everything fell on deaf ears.”
He said that the RCA had failed to organise any tournament of significance and instead played spoil-sport by announcing the Papa Hameed Tournament only after CMT&SD said they were to stage that competition.
The clubs formed a 10-member tournament committee which would organise the Saadat Hussain Memorial tournament soon while deciding to boycott the Papa Hameed event.
Meanwhile Masood said that RCA had received no requests for convening a general body. He termed the meeting of the clubs as having no legal value.
He said that the Papa Hameed tournament which they planned to stage was for clubs only while the CMT&SD were holding the event for departments.
