LAHORE, Sept 1: Senator S. M. Zafar has said that people have lost confidence in judiciary and legislative assemblies were not functioning properly.

He was speaking at a condolence reference held in the memory of local journalist Raja Ejaz at the Lahore Press Club on Monday. It was arranged by the Muslim Students Federation (Quaid-i-Azam). Raja Ejaz was killed by dacoits a couple of weeks ago.

He said that the murder of a journalist was a sad incident. Only healthy journalism could reform the society.

He said the government must ensure that recruitments were made on merit. Violation of merit had damaged the development of the society. He also stressed that individuals should raise voice to secure their rights.

Punjab Minister for Health Dr Tahir Ali Javed said the chief minister had taken a strict notice of the murder of the journalist and directed the law minister and IG Police to apprehend the killers.

MSF-Q central president Asif Chattha, LPC president Arshad Ansari, PUJ president Bakhtgir Chaudhry, Mazhar Iqbal and other journalists also spoke on the occasion.
