LAHORE, Aug 31: The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union has announced that 120,000 Wapda employees will observe a ‘Demands Day’ on Sept 10 to press for the acceptance of their charter of demands.

This was announced in a statement issued here on Sunday by Union President Abdul Latif Nizamani and secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed.

They said that employees wanted restoration of their ‘Performance Allowance’ from July 1 instead of its suspension in view of over Rs200 billion income and record increase in hydel and thermal power generation and number of power supply connections.

They said that workers wanted regularization of the services of their colleagues working on contract or daily wage basis against jobs of permanent nature for the last several years besides restoration of the quota for recruitment of their children.

The Union leaders said that workers also desired further improvement in safety measures for the prevention of accidents at work.

They urged Wapda workers to make concerted efforts for checking power theft for ensuring further increase in Wapda revenue so that funds could be made available for the acceptance of their financial demands. They also appealed the Wapda authority members to hold a meeting with the union to discuss the demands of workers.
