Sugar mill workers form body

Published September 1, 2003

BADIN, Aug 31: Owners and managements of sugar mills must stop exploiting labourers, cease harassing workers and put an end to injustices committed against them.

This was stated by president of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Trade Union Gul Rehman while speaking at a provincial workers’ convention at the Army Welfare Sugar Mill here on Saturday.

He announced the formation of a provincial workers’ body for finding an early solution to the problems of sugar mill workers.

Voting was held for various posts of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Trade Union, Sindh. Those, who were elected, included Abdul Majeed Leghari (president), Mohammad Iqbal Baryar (vice- president) and Basheer Ahmed (general secretary).

Criticizing the president and the federal finance minister, he said that rulers should be more loyal to Pakistan than act upon the dictation of the IMF and the United States.
