Robbers strike at three places in Pindi

RAWALPINDI, Aug 29: Three robberies were committed in different parts of the city, police and victims said on Friday.

The principal of Punjab College, Syed Anees Sabir, told New Town police that he was returning from National Savings Centre after drawing cash and purchasing prize bonds when three robbers intercepted him and snatched his handbag.

The handbag contained national savings certificates worth Rs2.3 million and prize bonds valued at Rs15,000 and Rs25,000.

In another incident, four robbers entered the house of a doctor in Gulistan Colony in broad daylight and made off with cash and other valuables.

Dr Safdar Hussain lodged a complaint with the police, saying four men entered his house and held his family at gunpoint. They then escaped with Rs25,000 and other valuables.

Meanwhile, Sarfraz Ullah, a truck driver, told the police that he was going to Peshawar, along with a co-driver, on a truck (GAC-6073). When the vehicle reached near Bahtar Road, Sarfraz Ullah found the road blocked with logs and rocks.

As soon as he stopped the truck, seven people surrounded the vehicle. They dragged the two drivers out of the truck, tied them up with a rope and drove away in the vehicle.

A REPORTER ADDS: Three gunmen snatched a car from a citizen in broad daylight on Friday in the jurisdiction of New Town police station, police said.

Mehmood Alam told the police that he was on his way back home when three gunmen intercepted him and snatched his car (IDM-6172) and a mobile near Sixth Road and escaped.
