ISLAMABAD, Aug 27: Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi is arriving here on Thursday to discuss bilateral ties and regional situation with Pakistani leaders.

Mr Kharazi will also call on President Pervez Musharraf on Friday and deliver President Mohammad Khatami’s letter to him.

During his visit, the Iranian foreign minister will meet his counterpart Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and hold delegation-level talks at the Foreign Office on Friday, sources said.

Mr Kharazi will also call on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali.

While the foreign ministry officials said the agenda would include bilateral matters and discussions on the regional situation, the Press Counsellor at the Iranian Embassy, Mr Tehrani, told Dawn that talks would focus on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Mr Tehrani hinted that the letter being carried by Mr Kharazi for President Musharraf was also related to this subject.

Recent reports in the US media claimed that Pakistan had been assisting Iran in its alleged uranium enrichment programme. Pakistan rejected these reports as “completely false, irresponsible and motivated.”
