MIRPURKHAS: Nazims seek more powers

MIRPURKHAS, Aug 26: Taluka Nazims of Sindh have called upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf to give them magisterial powers as enjoyed by Nazims of Punjab and Balochistan.

The demand was made at a meeting of 40 Sindh taluka Nazims held in Qasimabad a few days back, informed Samaro Taluka Nazim Ghulam Mustufa Khashkheli while talking to journalists here on Monday.

Mr Khashkheli said the meeting formed a committee in his chairmanship which would organize a convention of taluka Nazims of the province on Aug 31 in Hyderabad.

He said President Musharraf and National Reconstruction Bureau chairman Danial Aziz would also be invited to the convention.

He further said the meeting also adopted a resolution demanding the repeal of section 197 of the Sindh Local Bodies Ordinance so that no-confidence motions against taluka Nazims could not be passed by vested interests.

The Nazim said the meeting called for an to end political interference in the district government system.

Mr Khashkheli presided over the meeting which was attended by Nazeer Ahmad from Larkana, Agha Amjad Ali from Shikarpur, Irfan Ali Laghari from Khairpur Nathan Shah, Abdul Waheed Nizamani from Sanghar, Khuda Bux Dars from Khipro, Israr Magsi, Noor Mohammad Shar, Syed Noor Ali Shah, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Ali Gul Bozdar, Ali Akbar Junejo and others.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed by her brother-in-law in Dholanabad on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Rehman, attacked the woman, Rabia, wife of Abdul Rahim, with a knife after exchanging hot words with her. Ms Rabia died on the way to hospital.

The Town police took the body to a hospital for autopsy.

Abdul Rehman was arrested and the knife used in the murder was recovered from his possession.

ACCIDENT: One person was killed and three others were injured when a speedy car turned turtle near Sunji Mori, Samaro taluka, on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Amanullah Lashari, 18.

The injured, Iqbal baloch, Amjad Arain and Abdul Malik Lashari, were admitted to the Samaro Taluka Hospital.

KILLED: A man was killed when a Mirpurkhas-bound coaster and a car collided head-on near Kamaro Shareef on the Mirpurkhas-Tando Allahyar Road on Monday.

The name of the victim could not be ascertained.

BODY FOUND: The body of a watchman was recovered from sugarcane fields near Shadi Palli on Monday.

The watchman, Hayat, was missing for the last three days.

The body was handed over to his relatives after postmortem was conducted at the Pithoro rural health centre.

The Shadi Palli police have registered a case.
